I think that my female may be pregnant, she is tired, loss of appetite, but my main question is that she has became very aggressive with the other two dogs i have when it comes to any kind of food whether it is hers or not, she also wont let them near any of us while we are eating…she snaps at them and growls at them. Is this normal and if so what can i do to get her to stop?

These could be signs of a heat cycle. She could be experiencing hormonal changes in which her vulva and nipples become swollen and will experience a bloody discharge. During this time females dogs will not allow males dogs to approach, which may be the reason for hostile behavior towards her bother. After this cycle which can last anywhere from 5-20 days, she will experience ovulation and allow mating to occur. It is not uncommon for siblings to mate so keeping them separated during this time will be necessary to prevent unwanted pregnancies. This part of the cycle known as estrus will last between 5-13 days.

If your dog is pregnant it would be normal to have a milky or clear discharge but not bloody. If this is the case your dog may be experiencing a miscarriage or may have an infection associated with the pregnancy. Both of these cases can be life threatening and require medical attention.

It is possible for a dog of that age to still get pregnant. There is no way to tell if she is unless you bring her to see a veterinarian. Sometimes getting pregnant as a senior age can put a lot of stress on the mother which can have deadly consequences. Puppies of a litter that are born also don’t have a great survival rate and can be born with disabilities. Definitely go see a vet about this. The only other thing I can think of that could be causing the changes in her nipples would be some type of infection.

Her abdomen would feel harder, she would have an increased or decreased appetite and thirst depending on how far along she is. She would be less active. If you’re really curious you could always take her to vet to find out or there are pregnancy tests for dogs that you can order online. Keep us posted.

might my dog be having puppies? she has had behavioral problems all week like tearing a bag of batting up and shreading stuff, peeing on the carpet, whining a lot, pacing a lot, and now discharging from her vigina. nevr had this happen to me before as first dog i have owened . she was givin to me and is about 7-8 years old. because she is big (fat) u can’t see any difference in weight gain but did notice her tits are very hot to touch and moist. can you please advise
