Toenails are weird
My dogs toenails look odd. She's had this problem ever since we got her. Two nails on each paw it seems has two pink nails, and the others are black, each paw seems to suffer this problem. I noticed she also chews her nails, bear in mind she doesn't allow us to trim her nails either, so what could the discoloration be?

RE: Toenails are weird
There shouldn't be a problem. I hear that kind of thing happens a lot. If you ever plan to trim her nails, it'll be easier since her nails are more clear now. See the red in her nail, that's the vein, make sure to cut under it.

RE: Toenails are weird
That's great news. I thought she had some problem with her paws because of it. So it's normal for the nails to change color like that? Any idea why that happens? Or does it happen to most dogs anyways?

RE: Toenails are weird
I believe it's just pigments changing color every once in a while. I hear it happens to a lot of dogs, especially as they grow. I wouldn't worry about it.

RE: Toenails are weird
It's all natural. Dogs toenails change pigments all the time. Some will stay black forever and some will get pink or white. It's totally natural, nothing to worry about.

RE: Toenails are weird
I am in no way a pro on dogs but have had lots of experience with them and all the dogs I have had have different color nails and they do change as well sometimes with age and sometimes for no reason.. My german shepherds fur even changes color both with seasons and with age, she is four years old now, and I try to clip her nails often as her nails grow quickly. I also took in a Alaskan Siberien Husky and he does have abnormal nails on one foot but that was because he was caught in a hunting trap and his leg was damaged quite bad but not bad enough for him to not use it or for it to be amputated. I can't even trim the nails on that foot cause they are so short and seem to not grow, at least for the three months we have had him they have not grown any.
